Prato Piazza is a beautiful high-plateau in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park and in the Braies Dolomites. Prato Piazza is situated at an altitude of about 2000m above sea level and can be reached by car or shuttle bus in summer as well as in winter.

Prato Piazza is located in the Braies Valley, not far from the Braies Lake. 

How far is Prato Piazza from Mountain Residence Montana?

From us to Prato Piazza you need between 40-45 minutes by car. It is about 30km.

How do you get to Prato Piazza?

You can drive to Prato Piazza by car before 10.00 am or after 3.00 pm, the road to Prato Piazza is subject to charge.

Alternatively you can take the shuttle bus to Prato Piazza. The buses run every 20 minutes from 08.45am on, from Brückele-Ponticello

Where can I park?

You can always go by car to Brückele-Ponticello, park your car there and take the bus to Prato Piazza. Alternatively you can drive to Prato Piazza before 10.00am or after 3.00pm and park at the top of Prato Piazza.

In the high season it happens that after 10.00 am you are not allowed to drive to Brückele-Ponticello, but you have to park your car on a parking area in Säge. Shuttle buses also start from there. 

Is it possible to walk on Prato Piazza?

Prato Piazza is a fantastic hiking area. We recommend a hike to the Dürrenstein, to the Strudelkopf or to the Rossalm.

Dürrenstein: The hike from Prato Piazza takes about 2.5 hours in ascent. The Dürrenstein is 2839m high. You walk on the hiking trail nr. 37 to the Restaurant Prato Piazza, where the hiking trail nr. 40 branches off to the Dürrenstein. Shortly before the summit there is a passage secured with a wire rope, the rest of the hike is not dangerous.

The Dürrenstein is a very beautiful panoramic mountain in the Dolomites. Moreover, in only 2.5 hours you can reach a height of 2839m above sea level. Therefore the mountain is very busy in summer. The mountain is also very suitable to experience a sunrise on a peak. 

Strudelkopf: From the car park on the Prato Piazza you walk on the hiking trail no. 37 to the Dürrensteinhütte. On the north side of the hut you change to trail nr. 34, from where you walk for about 1,5h to Strudelkopf, only about 300m of altitude.

On the Strudelkopf you have a fantastic view of the Drei Zinnen-Tre Cime. The hike is also suitable as a sunrise or sunset hike. 

Rossalm: We recommend to leave the car in Brückele-Ponticello and take the bus to Prato Piazza. From Prato Piazza you walk in the direction of Stolla-Alm and then on the hiking trail nr. 3 in the direction of Rossalm. The hike is relatively flat and hardly makes any difference in altitude. The hike takes about 3 hours to the Rossalm. You can hike back the same way. However, we recommend the descent via hiking trail no. 4 to Brückele-Ponticello. 

Can you eat on Prato Piazza - Which restaurants and alpine huts are good?

On Prato Piazza there are the following restaurants and alpine huts which we recommend: Stolla-Alm and Berggasthof-Plätzwiese. 

Tips:

We recommend the Strudelkopf as a sunset hike if the weather is fine. You have a fantastic view of the Three Peaks, don't forget your torch for the descent.
