Lake Federa
Lake Federa - a unique natural jewel in the Dolomites is a magical, calm, peaceful and natural lake. Since the lake is fed only by underground springs, it is almost always constantly high in summer and winter. It also has a particularly high water quality, from which living rare and in many places extinct water species also benefit.
The mountain lake is surrounded by a magnificent mountain backdrop, walls, towers and wild jags. From here you can admire the Croda da Lago, Croda Rossa, Pomagagnon, Cristallo and Sorapis giants, visit the mountain hut on the shore of the lake called Corda da Lago G. Palmieri and enjoy a snack while gazing at the Bellunese Dolomites or take a refreshing dip in the lake.
How do I reach the lake?
You can reach the lake by foot or in winter with snowshoes.
The starting point is Ponte de Rocurto (1,708 m), located at the Giau Pass. There you will find a small parking area. This is the shortest route to Lake Federa. Near the bridge, you can see a sign pointing to a path in the woods (437). cross the stream and walk up the Croda da Lago ridge were you follow the hiking path number 437 until you reach the hiking path number 434 who leads you to the mountain lake at 2,038 m above sea level.
Hiking tips:
- For the way back, we recommend the same route as for the ascent
- Climb from the Ponte di Rocurto car park (shorter and less steep)
