The Roman road

High altitude hike from Welsberg to Toblach

From the starting point in Welsberg (1087m), first walk up between the houses until shortly after the north-eastern edge of the village. There is a crossroads where you turn right and then, always following trail no. 41, than you reach the Kammerlechn, Grandler and Karmann farms (1406m). There, the so-called "Römerweg", leads eastwards over the wooded ridge. After about three hours of hiking, you reach a fork in the path. The actual Roman path continues eastwards here and then leads to the Weiler Ratsberg above Toblach (1591m). From here, follow trail no. 22 and after about 50 minutes you will finally reach Toblach through a belt of woodland, from where you can take the train back to Welsberg.
